Over the past several years, the Data and Analytics Section of UNICEF has been working to identify the most recent and reliable country-level figures on the number of children in residential care and in detention to build global databases on these topics. This work has been carried out through extensive consultations with UNICEF regional and country offices and dedicated data compilation exercises.These global databases will now be officially released and made publicly available for the first time
